The excitement and controversy caused by KENNY SCHARF'S emergence into the art world along with his friends and fellow art legends Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat still continues. A leading participant in the intense East Village art scene of the early 1980s, Scharfs dynamic, upbeat and visually exuberant paintings have now held the interest of his peers, the fashion world, the international media and, ultimately, museums and fine art venues for more than a decade. Scharfs ambition to merge the art world with the real world, resulted in his collaboration with Absolut Vodka (1987), Swatch (1994,96), Rosenthal China (1996), ACME Studios (1998), and his own funky collectables store, the Scharf Schack, in New York Citys SoHo.
